The Production Process
All logs and siding produced at Creekside log homes use standing dead or fire salvage timber. We feel that these logs produce the best quality house logs, naturally dried these logs shrink less and in most cases do not check as bad as log homes built with green logs. We are able to see the checking and imperfections in the logs and these are graded out and or placed on the top or bottom of the milled log minimizing the amount of checking exposed to the weather. Checking is natural in logs and does not affect the structure of your home.
When the raw logs arrive in our yard we first sort them for size and species, they are then cut to length to maximize their use. The logs are then flat cut on our sawmill to prepare them to be ran through our profile mill. The cants (flat sawn logs) are then run through our profile mill into either Swedish cope, D-log, Pioneer log or one of a number of siding products.
